I went to Dorrie's baby shower yesterday. Dorrie is super adorable as a pregnant woman, and I was pleasantly surprised at the number of games her sister came up with that a) did not involve embarrassing Dorrie (i.e. making guest guess how much her waistline has increased) and b) did not involve grossing us all out by making us smell diapers and guess what substance was in them. I know the diaper game is all about melted candy bars and baby food, but still.
In the interest of promoting this type of baby shower game, I'll revisit a few here:
1) Write on a diaper. Think of something clever that Mike and Dorrie can read in the middle of the night and write it on a diaper with a magic marker. The hostess then puts all the diapers in a diaper bag to give to the new mom at the end of the shower.
2) Predictions. On a pre-designed sheet of paper, predict what the sex, eye/hair color, name, and favorite book/sport of the baby will be. Also included - give the new parents one piece of advice. A great keepsake for a baby book.
3) Draw a baby. The hostess hands out paper plates and crayons. All the guests put the paper plate on their heads and attempt to draw a baby on the plate in that position. The expectant mother gets to award a prize to the best baby drawing.
4) Find the diaper pins in the rice. Dorrie's sister did this with regular safety pins. Fill a bowl with rice (not instant), then add 20 or so safety pins. With their eyes closed, guests have to fish the safety pins out of the rice. The winner is the person with the most pins. Harder than it looks!
